Preservation & Economic Development Grant Program 

The Route 66 Preservation and Economic Development Grant Program [Route 66 PED Grant Program] seeks to support businesses and attractions located along Route 66. 

It is part of the Road Ahead Partnership’s efforts to celebrate the upcoming Route 66 Centennial by helping the millions of people who live, work, and travel the Mother Road.

The 2026 round of the Preservation and Economic Development Grant Program opens on Thursday, July 2nd.

Grant Goals and Intent

The Route 66 Preservation and Economic Development Grant program goals include:

  • Helping Route 66 Businesses/Attractions stay in operation.

  • Helping Route 66 Businesses/Attractions reopen.

  • Helping preserve, restore and/or expand Route 66 Businesses/Attractions, per Secretary of the Interior Standards, 

  • Help new Route 66 Businesses/Attractions open.

Program Awards

In 2026, up to $35,000 will be awarded. This will consist of as many as fourteen awards of up to $2,500 each.Thanks to support from Bosch Wiper Blades, four grant awards will specifically target independent auto repair shops or mechanics along Route 66. The ability to make/increase annual awards will be contingent on the fundraising efforts designed to support the Route 66 Preservation and Economic Development Grant Program.
